Independent High School Research

ASSET has a new Independent High School Research program to help motivated students carry out teacher-supervised original independent science research projects in their schools. ASSET will loan materials and supplies needed for approved projects .

ASSET will support lab based projects using Tetrahymena, a safe, easy-to-grow protozoan, as a research organism. Students interested in carrying out a lab based project can apply for the loan of needed equipment and supplies by submitting a brief proposal describing the question they wish to investigate, and how they intend to carry out, analyze, and report their research. Approval of the supervising teacher is required for all projects. Students using ASSET materials for their project are asked to send us a final project report, which may include a Word document, graphs, tables, pictures, micrographs, PowerPoint presentations, videos, and/or other appropriate formats. The completed project, including student, teacher, and school affiliation, may be posted on our website, and will be eligible for entry in our virtual Science Fair.

ASSET is also interested in fostering independent student inquiry on topics related to science and society, now and throughout history. Interested students are welcome to utilize the resources provided on our website, and can submit a final project report, which may include a Word document, graphs, tables, pictures, micrographs, PowerPoint presentations, videos, and/or other appropriate formats, to ASSET to be considered for posting on our website and entry into our virtual Science Fair.
